Park Power Management

Wind turbine control, wind farm power management

Stay in compliance with grid operator demands

It is increasingly common that the grid operators impose on the wind farm owners a demand for control of the production. The demands from the grid operators are for being capable of setting a set-point for the production of the wind farms.

Farm owners incentive to comply with the demands of the grid operators is to not produce more than they are rewarded for - thus optimizing the maintenance and the life time expectancy of the wind farm.

DEIF Wind Power Technology offers a wind farm power management solution complying with the demands of the grid operators which are standardized in IEC 61400-25.

The grid operator is communicating the desired set-point

The wind park power management solution makes the wind park in compliance with grid operator demands thus optimising the overall economical outcome of the park

for the power production of the wind park – which is not higher than the calculated virtual power of the park (the theoretical maximum production of the park under the current conditions – calculated as function of each individual turbines conditions). From the control center of the wind park the wanted production is communicated to each individual turbine.

Depending on the pitch regulation of the turbine the turbine will need some time to comply with the new turbine set-point. In reality that means that a wind farm of for instance 50 turbines 1.5MW each will regulate from for instance 75MW to 50MW in approximately 60 seconds.

The wind park power management system helps minimizing the wear of the wind turbines thus optimizing the economical outcome of the wind park

An example of the regulation of an wind park. Red is the maximum possible production of the park. Blue is the set-point send from the grid operator. Orange is the actual production. The park owner will not get rewarded for producing more than the, by the grid operator, requested limit. Complying with the limit minimises the wear of the wind turbines.
